Joshua Ijala- Thumb Pianist/Vocalist

Joshua Ijala has been playing thumb piano all his life and calls himself the "thumb piano guru of Soroti". He grew up in a very poor family and due to lack of school fees, he stopped his education in primary school. Fortunately for him, he was a talented musician, and good at the thumb piano so he formed his own music team in Soroti, Eastern Uganda. Led by Joshua, this team of thumb piano players has been travelling performing music in different parts of the country. He teaches thumb piano for a living.

Joshua believes that traditional Ugandan music has been adulterated by what most Ugandans perceive as modern music thus becoming less valuable and meaningful to the people of Uganda. Joshua has a passion for African music and wants to learn more about world music in order to take part in the global music scene. He greatly respects Ugandan musicians like the late Philly Lutaaya R.I.P, who worked had to get Ugandan music recognized on the world music scene.
